FOR PINE-RICHLAND SCHOOL BOARD
FOR PINE-RICHLAND SCHOOL BOARD
A Strong Voice for Our Public Schools
PINE-RICHLAND REGION 2
Amy Cafardi has lived in Pine for 25 years and attended Mars school district. She has put her BA in Criminal Justice Administration (Pitt) and law degree (Duquesne) to work as an attorney, currently consulting for Legal Zoom. As her children have progressed through Pine Richland and had vastly different experiences, Amy has been a stay-at-home mom, allowing her to volunteer in the classroom. She has steadfastly provided support for her students' various athletic teams, including football, baseball, and hockey. She is currently a PR Dance Team mom, making costumes and props and helping with travel. Amy and her husband have one student in the high school and a 2019 PR graduate.
KEY PRIORITIES
Pursue excellence in all areas
Prioritize student safety and well-being
Make responsible, future-focused financial decisions
As a 25-year resident of Pine and a parent of two children who have gone through the Pine-Richland School District, I have had the opportunity to see firsthand the many aspects of our students’ educational journeys. Each of my children has had a unique experience, which has given me valuable insight into the diverse opportunities and challenges within our schools.
My background as both an attorney and a stay-at-home mom has shaped my ability to analyze issues from multiple perspectives. As an attorney, I bring strong analytical thinking, attention to detail, and problem-solving skills—qualities that are essential in reviewing policies, budgets, and district initiatives. As a parent, I understand the importance of balancing academic excellence, extracurricular opportunities, and student well-being. I have been deeply involved in the school community, from volunteering in elementary classrooms to supporting the Pine-Richland Dance Team as a booster.
I have attended, watched, and spoken at school board meetings, and I am committed to ensuring transparency, accountability, and thoughtful decision-making for our district. Additionally, my experience serving as treasurer for a nonprofit organization demonstrates my ability to manage finances responsibly and advocate for those in need.
Beyond my professional and volunteer roles, I have been a football mom, baseball mom, hockey mom, and now a dance mom, giving me an even broader understanding of the activities and passions that enrich our students' lives. I believe my combination of legal expertise, community involvement, and firsthand parental experience will allow me to positively contribute to the Pine-Richland School Board.
I am excited about the opportunity to serve our students, parents, and educators and to work collaboratively toward maintaining and improving the high standards of Pine-Richland.
Who I Am
I am a 23-year resident of Pine-Richland. My husband and I chose to raise our children here. My daughter Alaina is a current sophomore. She is an honor student and member of the PR dance team. My son Shane played football and baseball at Pine-Richland and graduated in 2019. I am a product of public education. I attended Mars School District, graduating in 1993.
With me, what you see is what you get. Some of you have witnessed my passion speaking at board meetings over the past two years. I am authentic. I don’t have the ability to be fake. And I won’t start now just to ask for your vote.
Excellence in all areas
The Pine Richland name is synonymous with Excellence in Academics, Athletics, the Arts and Special Needs Support. Recently, when you hear the Pine Richland name, all too often, it is about some political sideshow our Board majority has caused. Bathrooms, CRT, counselors, books. Who knows what’s next? Aren’t you tired of it? If elected, I promise to focus on the real priorities of our community, not political side shows and culture wars that bring us unwanted national attention and waste our limited resources.
Fiscal responsibility
Our board majority continues to focus on dismantling public education with extremist agendas instead of protecting our investments in our community and schools. Pine-Richland has been expertly guided by our administrators and our prior school board and current Board Treasurer, which has allowed us to be in a position to be proactive instead of reactive. We are now facing a monumental financial challenge. Anyone planning for the future should not make short sighted, year to year financial decisions. We need a school board that will focus their attention on making smart, future focused financial decisions during these unprecedented times of financial uncertainty.
Impending budget shortfalls due to board inaction
The District is facing a $1.6M deficit for 2025-26 SY. More than 10% of this deficit has been caused by the board majority’s increased legal fees. What’s worse is that the projected budget deficit in EVERY year moving forward is nearly FOUR TIMES that. This is a serious issue that will affect everyone in our community, whether you have children in the District or not. No one wants to see their taxes increased, but I don’t believe taking a chainsaw to our schools is the right answer either. If elected, I commit to looking at all current spending before voting in favor of a tax increase for our community, especially with concern for our seniors who are living on a fixed income.
YOUR Tax Dollars Funding Charter Schools
We need to set our personal agendas aside and fix how we fund education in Pennsylvania. Right now, charter and cyber schools receive funding based on an outdated formula, instead of the actual amount spent on a student’s education. This has left these schools with massive windfalls that they have used for things like staff bonuses, gift cards, vehicle payments and fuel stipends. YOUR tax dollars paying for gift cards and vehicle payments for charter school staff and students. There is a plan to match this funding to direct student costs instead of using an outdated formula that isn’t working. This change would save Pine-Richland approximately $800k every year. My opponent, Christina Brussalis, has voted against prioritizing this TWICE. She does not support public education and clearly DOES NOT care about your tax dollars.
Extreme library policy overhaul
The library policy is yet another area where the school board majority has injected their political agenda into policy and manufactured a problem where there was none. An existing library policy that provided a reasonable solution to address concerns from parents has been thrown out, to be replaced by an overly complicated, potentially unenforceable, and mysteriously sourced policy. Through this process, the input and concerns of parents, students, teachers, librarians, and other community members have been ignored or disrespected, and they’ve doubled legal costs with a looming budget shortfall. This board is disrespectful and fiscally irresponsible.
School Safety
Students cannot learn unless they are safe. To me, safety is not only physical safety, it is also about a student’s overall well being. Earlier this school year, our District was the victim of a swatting incident that forced our high school into a prolonged lockdown. My daughter was in the building for it. It was horrifying. And many of our students and families are still suffering from the effects of it. Our Board has been silent on issues of school safety — even after that incident! I promise that every day, I will have a focus on school safety and that it will have a place in public board discussions so that our kids and our community will have peace of mind.
Special Education Support
Pine-Richland is known for its excellent special education programs and support. Many people moving to the area seek out homes in Pine-Richland to get access to that support. Did you know that 18% of families in our District access some level of that support? This same level of support MUST be guaranteed and fully funded for qualifying students moving forward. The Board majority is seeking to cut these services in an effort to manage their own fiscal irresponsibility. They must be stopped. A vote for me is a vote to support the most vulnerable among us — and to protect our special education programs and support.
Responsible and Respectful Governance
If you have watched or attended a Board meeting in the last two years, you know what an absolute embarrassment they have become. Responsible Governance begins with listening to stakeholders, being transparent with decision making and communicating clearly and consistently. If elected, you have my promise that I will not only listen to our community, but that I will also explain the reasoning — publicly, at board meetings - for any vote that I make.
Vote out politics and extremism
In the last school board election, less than half of our community voted. We’ve seen the result of that, as people with extreme political agendas have now made decisions for our families. Make a plan to vote. Know what region you are in and where you vote. Whether you are a Democrat or Republican, I am asking for your vote. I am on both ballots in the primary election, because school board elections should not be about party affiliation. You have my promise that I will care about issues important to your family, be transparent in my decision making and communicate with you honestly. Let’s focus on Excellence in Pine-Richland, NOT extremism.
